The principe of 7th year
As a student I decided that I every 7th years after start working should do something else, something voluntary with no income. The fall of 2011 is the beginning of my first 7th-year.

Participant

As a student at Birkeland Folkehøgskole in 1998-1999 I went on my first trip to East-Africa. It was a 12 days trip to Kenya, a trip with big contrast in the program and to my daily life. It gave me a lot to reflect around, so it learned me a lot. Through the years since then I have been visiting East-Africa, with Uganda and Rwanda included, for 12 times, 6 times as a leader of a bigger group, but never longer than one months.

2009 was the first time I had the main responsibility for the schools trip to East-Africa, and as I was preparing I came in contact with Lydia Nandudu who connected me with Nkuringo Gorilla Campsite and Nkuringo Youth Initiative Group. And since then, february 2009, Nkuringo have been a kind of «heaven on earth» for me. So when I got the question of the owner if I would like to come and work as a manager voluntary for a longer period, I easily got convinced.
